Youth mentoring, parenting skills, and advice


 Provide programs and services that build on family strengths through prevention, education, support and collaboration with other resources in the community. Lakeland is available to all families and children in Washburn County. All programs are offered at no cost.

Community Response Program


This voluntary program is designed to provide individual families with supports to identify their strengths and to ensure success in meeting their goals.


Programs Offered

First Friends and Birth to Three Playgroup 

Mondays 10am-12pm


 This playgroup is open to all children. There will be special focus on infants and their caregivers with sensory stimulation and movement experience through appropriate toys and props. Washburn County Birth to Three Coordinator is present at each group.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

New meeting days and times! This support group meets the third Tuesday of every month over breakfast at Lakeland Family Resource Center. Caregivers are welcome to stop in anytime between 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. The play area will be available for children. 

Parent Education Workshops

Parent education workshops, classes with an emphasis in areas such as positive parenting, nutrition, health, anger management, stress reductions, child development stages, and CPR

Connections program is a program that works one on one with parents on specific parenting issues or concerns

Library Fun for Little Ones

Shell Lake Library on Thursdays 10:30am-11:15am


Moms, dads, grandparents, daycare providers, aunts, uncles, and even neighbors are invited to bring their preschoolers to this special sharing time of storybooks, crafts, and snacks. This program is geared to preschool age children; however there is no age minimum or maximum. 

Open Center

Wednesday 12pm-3pm


Open center provides an opportunity to drop in and enjoy unstructured play and talk informally with staff


Wednesdays 10am-12pm


Participants, staff and area agencies discuss, learn, and share ideas and experiences to enrich parenting skills. Art and play materials are available to children of all ages
